KMOP has for several years successfully run the three Group Houses Kalypso, Alkyonis and Prooptiki for persons with mental disorders. The list of projects in mental health details the background and provides a full description of services offered. Here you find photos of the wide range of activities undertaken at the Group Houses. The Building: exterior and interior The setting is the picturesque Kapandriti (Attica) and Xylocastro (the Peleponnese) respectively. The buildings are not located separately from the community, but form a part of local society, which encourages interaction with people in the neighbourhood. The official inauguration of the Group House Kalypso took place in June 2006 and was attended by the Greek Minister of Health and Social Solidarity, Mr Avramopoulos. The Minister paid tribute to KMOP’s efforts in the de-institutionalization of mentally ill people, and noted that the organization acts as a pioneer in this field in Greece, “creating an oasis of civilization and humanity”. The patients number 15 in each Group House, and their ages vary from 28 up to 77 The medical, psychological and social needs of the patients are met on a 24-hour basis by a comprehensive team of professional staff; ranging from psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, to physiotherapists and nurses, backed up by administrative support staff. In addition to the therapeutic and nursing needs of the patients and the regular medical examinations, KMOP places much emphasis on social skills-training, and to the extent possible, education and vocational training.
