“RE-PoD: Re-investing Expertise: Expansion of Professional Training for Educators and Parents of Children with Down's Syndrome”


The RE-PoD project, is a Lifelong Learning Programme under the Leonardo da Vinci sub-programme funded by the European Commission, involves six European partners: KMOP (Greece), MAST SA (Greece), DBBZ Pleven (Bulgaria), Pomoshtno Uchilishte “PR Slaveykov” (Bulgaria) “Down Association” (Hungary) and “Castle of Miracles” (Hungary) and aims at improving the skills of professionals and families of persons with DS in Hungary and Bulgaria, so as the quality of life to be improved and maximum autonomy to be achieved.

KMOP is leading this action that will be implemented over 24-month period starting from October 2012) and intends develop an adapted training tool on the basis of the existing “PoD” tool, which developed during the PoD project. This project is expected to have important and sustainable results in the participating countries, particularly in the following areas:

  • Adaptation and transfer of the training tool’s
  • Enhancement of National and EU policies in this field
  • Qualification and strengthening of the competencies of guardians and stakeholders in the 4 countries involved and at EU level
  • Wide dissemination and sharing of the project’s results
  • Training tool’s transfer and adaptation to the Hungarian and Bulgarian situational contexts
  • Testing the new adapted tool in Bulgaria and Hungary
  • Evaluation of the tool’s transferability on the basis of the pilot results in in Bulgaria and Hungary
  • Creation of a network of various stakeholders in both countries mandated to enhance the quality of support available for parents on children with special needs, so as wide dissemination and sharing of the project’s results to be achieved
