Challenge
Elderly people, particularly those residing in rural areas, face limited opportunities to access information on crucial subjects like energy efficiency, renewables, climate change, and sustainability, despite their significant impact on the environment and climate.
The population aged above 65 is also vulnerable to economic and societal changes particularly concerning fluctuations in energy prices, utilities, and essential food products. Consequently, they are more susceptible to experiencing energy poverty.
By enhancing the knowledge of seniors in regards to green and sustainable practices, they can develop a heightened awareness of their consumption habits and their environmental impact. This, in turn, enables them to gain a deeper understanding of household processes and their contribution to climate change. Additionally, such knowledge empowers them to reduce expenses and enhance their lifestyle in an environmentally-conscious and climate-friendly manner.
Innovation
The C.H.A.N.G.E.R.S.-2.0 project is focused on creating tailored training materials designed specifically for rural seniors. The primary goal is to enhance their access to adult learning opportunities, focusing on key subjects that can enable them to combat climate change and energy poverty while promoting sustainability.
These topics include energy efficiency, sustainable households, and climate change adaptation. By equipping elderly individuals in rural areas with relevant knowledge and skills, the project aims to empower them to take meaningful actions towards a greener and more sustainable future.
