System

Challenge

The WELFARE project comes in response to the documented need for infusing social entrepreneurship and innovation into Higher Education. Although social entrepreneurship is currently embedded within university curricula, this happens through a narrow approach that has mainly a subject-specific focus and application mainly in business studies. For this reason, it is difficult to leverage its full potential and offer holistic solutions to urgent societal issues. There is a great need to empower and equip people from all faculties to develop social entrepreneurship competences and drive positive change.

Innovation

The WELFARE project will create a melting pot for social innovation within universities as a gateway for researchers, master and post graduate students to develop skills and competences as social entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs, by engaging them in communication and cooperation with educational institutions, non-profits and businesses within the welfare system.

Action

The GAP analysis is bringing to surface the needs of practitioners, educators, researchers and students of European universities. It includes a stakeholder analysis, as well as a situational analysis on social innovation and entrepreneurship.

The WELFARE curriculum for social innovation and entrepreneurship training includes modules, descriptors and teaching, methodologies. It applies both to online and face2face, both using flipped learning approach in teaching, training and can be adapted to different target groups.

The training material is built upon information gathered and target group needs and ideas revealed in the GAP and needs analysis, and is based upon the WELFARE course curriculum. It targets university students and practitioners working together on identifying and solving social challenges.

Pilot trainings target 20+ participants in each partner country. Their main goal is to provoke interest, review and finalize project results, OERs and the training platform.

The WELFARE training platform includes general information about the project, open educational resources like curriculum, OERs, training materials and training videos, and the online platform in different languages to be used in pilot and online trainings. The WELFARE training platform’s objective is to present in a concise and easy accessible way project results.
