GA number: 2023-1-PL01-KA220-SCH-000151070

Funded by: Erasmus+      Duration: 01/12/2023-30/11/2025

Challenge

Cyberbullying is recognised as a major social problem, ranking as the top concern for schools. Among others, cyberbullying affects students’ mental and physical health, leading to lasting impacts on their confidence, self-esteem, and even self-harm. Research indicates that 65% of cyberbullying in Europe occurs on online platforms.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced schools and students into digital learning, exacerbating the problem with a 70% increase in cyberbullying during lockdown. Children with fewer opportunities, such as migrant students (14.7%) tend to be targeted and bullied online the most, highlighting the need to raise awareness of this escalating threat and bring together all school actors to fight against it. The European Commission prioritises digital inclusion and a high-performing digital education ecosystem, to ensure that everybody can contribute to and benefit from the digital world.

Innovation

Through an interactive, gamified simulator, the project aims to provide a scenario-based learning process in a safe environment for educators and students, building their self-esteem, problem-solving and digital skills so as to improve their capacity to address and prevent cyberbullying.

Action

– compare national/European level data, related to cyberbullying behaviours

– empower the school community to understand the complexities of cyberbullying

– raise awareness on the cyberbullying behaviours

– equip school leaders, educators with practical guidelines and best practices on how to tackle cyberbullying.

  • An online environment with rich content to act as a “one-stop-shop” providing instant access to a full suite of gamified learning resources, including a simulator with scenarios on cyberbullying, a collection of digital lesson plans, digital support guide students and other OERs. The objectives are to:

– build students’ confidence, self-esteem and competencies to combat cyberbullying

– equip educators with a collection of hands-on teaching and learning material

– provide a collection of digital resources to be adopted and adapted by teachers
