AWARE

AWARE – Increasing Anxiety awareness in higher education during (post) Covid-19 pandemic

This project aims to increase anxiety/mental health awareness among HE Institutions staff and students.

Proposal number: 2022-1-PL01-KA220-HED-000087038

Funded by: Erasmus+      Duration: 01/12/2022-30/11/2024

Challenge

Anxiety and depression are the two most common reasons that students seek mental health services, underscoring the significance of addressing students’ mental well-being within higher education institutions (HEIs). Consequently, HEI staff should anticipate heightened levels of distress and behavioral difficulties, highlighting the need for proactive readiness from both HEIs and mental health services.

Innovation

The AWARE project aims to equip staff with the needed tools, resources and knowledge to recognise, manage, and support students with anxiety. In addition, to develop and improve anxiety management skills among students, while expanding emotional competence and positive attitudes, as well as, accommodate the anxious students in HE Institutions by increasing knowledge and skills among the rest of their surroundings.

Action

The aim is to create Good Practice guidelines with prior desk research and identification of good practices of mental wellbeing approach in HE in European countries, considering their good practices and how they can be applied to cases where there is no such practice.

This Handbook targets educators and students to get to know more about the anxiety, and how to manage it, and also gaining more knowledge about mental health issues among students and Covid-19 effect. It includes general information about mental health, a guide on recognising anxiety among students; guidance on developing skills of managing anxiety and; mental health awareness guidelines in wholescale HEi.

The aim of the e-course is to help HE staff to acquire the necessary skills to be able to fully accomplish the task of delivering a holistic, inclusive, socio-emotionally oriented training which truly puts the students’ needs, and well-being at the centre. This e-course platform delves into and trains HE staff on mental wellbeing concepts and approaches and anxiety, trains them on the methodology and tools of anxiety detection and awareness and how to integrate them in the HE environment, and displays hands-on examples of implementing the principles of mental health wellbeing in HE context.
