Challenge
Climate change poses a global challenge, compounded by a growing ageing population expected to reach 21.1% by 2050, which translates to one in five people globally. Studies show that the elderly are the population with one of the highest greenhouse gas emissions, yet climate action does not seem to be a main concern for them.
Research indicates that issues like social isolation, health concerns, and limited mobility hinder older people from actively engaging in sustainable causes. Stereotypes and a lack of initiatives further marginalise their involvement. Nevertheless, senior people can and should be part of solutions to climate change.
Innovation
SCA aims to mobilise older (potential) visual artists aged 65+ in Slovakia, Italy, Greece, Spain and Italy to become actors of green change and to influence other older people to be more conscious of the environment.
