Seniors4Change

Seniors for Change

An Erasmus+ initiative that aims to address the fight against climate change through a digital approach that will help create a bridge between generations.

GA number: 2023-1-FR01-KA220-ADU-000159376

Funded by: Erasmus+      Duration: 01/09/2023-31/08/2025

Challenge

Seniors (60+), who are expected to represent almost a third of the EU population by 2050, are often blamed for not being sufficiently engaged in the fight against climate change. Contrary to the youth, for whom environmental aspirations sometimes come as second nature, seniors are often said to be more reluctant to change their behaviour patterns in order to cut down their carbon footprint and contribute, at their level, to the preservation of resources. Nevertheless, given the fatal and urgent nature of climate change, seniors should be empowered to contribute positively to combat this challenge.  In fact, the project partners consider that the older generations, as a living link to the past, possess invaluable knowledge and experience in sustainability, for example in the fields of repairing, reusing and repurposing. These three R’s are declared to be crucial for building up the world, fulfilling the needs of current generations without compromising the needs of future ones.

Innovation

The Seniors4Change project aspires to empower seniors in the fight against climate change through a digital approach (sharing their knowledge and sustainable practices through social media) that will help create a bridge between generations.

Action

The project aims to organise three focus group sessions for seniors (60+) in each country, exploring their sustainable practices (the existing practices and habits of seniors) and collect these sustainable DIY practices to be used as an inspiration for the training manual. National reports will detail session outcomes, material reception, and showcase seniors’ DIY practices. The final report, summarising national findings, will be published on the project website.

Creation of a training manual offering a total of 15 hours of training content. Each unit will explore DIY topics, ranging from defining DIY and showcasing its benefits for seniors to delving into social media (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook), videography skills, and transitioning DIY hobbies into entrepreneurship. Partners will collaborate to develop modular content following guidelines set by the project leader, ensuring a comprehensive and versatile training experience for seniors.

The project aims to ensure that the e-learning platform aligns with seniors’ needs, undergoes rigorous testing, and enables independent use by multipliers. It facilitates direct engagement of seniors in project activities by organising 3 training sessions with at least 10 seniors per country, producing inspiring videos for the target group, promoting DIY content on social media, and refining learning materials before project completion.
