Historical Thinking: Learning from the Past, Shaping the Future

KMOP – Social Action and Innovation Centre invites you to the conference “Historical Thinking: Learning from the Past, Shaping the Future”, taking place online on 22 April 2026, from 14:00 to 16:00 (CET) | 15:00 to 17:00 GR time.

At a time when the ways we engage with the past are being increasingly challenged, the conference aims to spotlight innovative educational approaches that promote critical thinking, empathy, and active citizenship among young people. Bringing together professionals from the fields of education, youth work, social sciences, and community engagement, the event will create space for meaningful dialogue on how interdisciplinary learning can enrich educational experiences and strengthen democratic culture.

The conference will also offer participants the opportunity to learn more about the REM HERITAGE initiative and explore how historical learning can become more participatory, inclusive, and relevant to today’s social realities. Special attention will be given to the role of education in fostering democratic values, tolerance, social responsibility, and respect for human rights.

Through presentations and interactive discussions, participants will be invited to exchange ideas and practices, reflect on educational methodologies, and contribute to a wider conversation on how learning from the past can help shape a more inclusive and informed future.

The project

REM HERITAGE strengthens engagement with the past through fresh, intergenerational ways of learning. The project helps young people explore critical moments in history and supports them to become active voices against antisemitism and racism. Through an interactive digital platform and a network of Youth Ambassadors across Europe, REM HERITAGE connects the past with the present, encouraging empathy, critical thinking, and respect for diversity, while promoting a more inclusive future for all.
