The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted or halted critical mental health services in 93% of countries worldwide while the demand for mental health support is increasing, according to a recent WHO survey. In particular, the survey of 130 countries provides the first global data showing the devastating impact of COVID-19 on access to mental health services and underscores the urgent need for increased funding. Bereavement, isolation, loss of income and fear are triggering mental health conditions and exacerbating existing ones. Many people may be facing increased levels of alcohol and drug use, insomnia, and anxiety. COVID-19 can also lead to neurological and mental complications, such as delirium, agitation, and strokes. In these circumstances, it is important to equip youth workers, psychologists, social workers, practitioners and organisations with the necessary tools and competences in order to help youth with psychological disorders to address hidden pressures and stressors. Emphasis needs to be placed on mental health programmes that may save lives during the pandemic and beyond. Given the situation, the use of art and exploration from within the digital world could serve as a therapeutic strategy.
