Πρόκληση

The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted or halted critical mental health services in 93% of countries worldwide while the demand for mental health support is increasing, according to a recent WHO survey. In particular, the survey of 130 countries provides the first global data showing the devastating impact of COVID-19 on access to mental health services and underscores the urgent need for increased funding. Bereavement, isolation, loss of income and fear are triggering mental health conditions and exacerbating existing ones. Many people may be facing increased levels of alcohol and drug use, insomnia, and anxiety. COVID-19 can also lead to neurological and mental complications, such as delirium, agitation, and strokes. In these circumstances, it is important to equip youth workers, psychologists, social workers, practitioners and organisations with the necessary tools and competences in order to help youth with psychological disorders to address hidden pressures and stressors. Emphasis needs to be placed on mental health programmes that may save lives during the pandemic and beyond. Given the situation, the use of art and exploration from within the digital world could serve as a therapeutic strategy.

Καινοτομία

ARTY aims to equip professionals from different countries and sectors by developing a guide and toolkit to enhance the skills of young workers, psychologists, social workers and professionals, CSOs and organisations, so they may better promote the mental well-being of young people.

Δράσεις

The Guide aims at supporting CSOs, youth workers, psychologists, social workers and practitioners to develop their skills and enhance their capacities in order to organise digital art therapy sessions for youth with developing or existing mental health conditions. The Guide will include roadmaps, creative and good practices for the organisation and implementation of online art therapy sessions. The Guide will allow target groups to use digital tools to stimulate the mental well-being of young people.

The aim of this action is to fill the gaps in the continuous access to mental health care through the extension of the competencies of youth workers, psychologists, social workers and practitioners. The capacity building programme will foster professionals’ ability to offer digital art therapy sessions to vulnerable youth with developing or existing mental health conditions. By utilising digital tools in art therapy, these professionals will be able to offer continuous support to their beneficiaries, even during lockdowns and quarantine situations. To this end, ARTY will equip professionals to better deal with possible future pandemic waves.

The aim of this action is to develop and disseminate an Awareness Raising Toolkit for CSOs. The toolkit will enable the beneficiaries to raise public awareness, lead and contribute to the development of mental health and youth policies that will address the impact of COVID- 19 on young people with developing or existing mental health conditions.
