Sport

Challenge

As put forward by the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP, 2015), Sport not only contributes to a healthier, fairer and more equal society but has also a great potential in raising awareness and harnessing societal energy towards a cause. In this sense, sport can contribute to the environmental agenda, by encouraging the population to take action to combat climate change and its impacts (SDG 13), promoting healthy lives and well-being for all at all ages (SDG3), and by contributing the global partnership for sustainable development (SDG17).

Innovation

Green League aspires to enhance the link between sport and the environment by promoting outdoor physical activity as a tool to support environmental awareness, and encouraging sustainable practices in sport.

Action

The Green League Model aims to promote to sport professionals outdoor physical activity as a tool to educate people on environmental matters.

Inspired by the 4 natural elements (water, air, earth and fire), these events aim at educating individuals about the environment while performing sports activities.

The local tournaments aspire to actively engage sport clubs and young athletes into sport activities that raise awareness on environmental issues.
