Youth-Well: Working Together for Resilient and Democratic Youth

Youth-Well aims to foster resilience, inclusivity and active participation among young people,

Grant Agreement Number: 101132239

Funded by: Erasmus+      Duration: 01/12/2023 – 30/11/2025

Challenge

When young people experience mental health issues, they are often less motivated, less trusting, and less interested in actively participating in democratic life. In late 2020, the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) published research showing that the mental health impacts of the Covid-19 crisis could affect political participation. Although democracy and mental health are rarely discussed together, they are closely linked; individuals with depressive symptoms tend to be more politically disengaged.

Innovation

By empowering youth workers to develop socio-emotional life skills in young people, the YouthWell project aims to create a positive cycle where improved mental health leads to increased civic engagement, and heightened civic participation, in turn, further enhances their mental wellbeing and overall quality of life.

Action

The training programme focuses on building resilient, media-literate and civically engaged youth. It includes non-formal and formal activities, energisers, notes, case studies, diagrams, and material that can easily be adapted to local contexts for each chapter.

The content consists of the following topics:

  • Inclusive societies
  • Youth Civic Engagement – Information & Constructive Dialogue
  • Mental Health & Wellbeing

The manual contains guidelines, practical tips, recommendations and examples on building inclusive societies, youth civic engagement – information and constructive dialogue, and mental health and well-being.

Through the capacity-building sessions, youth workers will strengthen their skills and knowledge in fostering inclusive societies, youth civic engagement and constructive dialogue, as well as resilience/mental health and wellbeing among youth.

This e-learning platform includes open educational resources aimed for youth workers who are interested in improving their skills in fostering youth’s mental health and active citizenship.
