Move, Play & Belong: Inclusive Family Sports

GA number:  101245086

Funded by: Erasmus+ Duration: 01/01/2026-31/12/2027

Challenge

Sports and physical activity play a fundamental role in promoting social inclusion, well-being and equality. However, socially at-risk families, such as low-income households, foster families and refugee families, face significant barriers to participation. Economic constraints, cultural differences, limited access to facilities, and social stigmatisation limit their ability to engage in regular physical activities, reinforcing social exclusion and health inequalities. Given that 81% of adolescents and 27.5% of adults in Europe fail to meet the recommended levels of physical activity (WHO), it is crucial to develop inclusive, accessible, and sustainable solutions that promote active lifestyles and enable vulnerable groups to fully participate in society and sports.

Innovation

Move, Play & Belong promotes sport as a driver of inclusion, creating accessible opportunities for socially at-risk families to stay active, connect with their communities, and experience the social and health benefits of participation.

Action

Identifying the challenges, motivations, and participation barriers affecting socially at-risk families across Europe, while highlighting policy gaps, best practices, and recommendations that strengthen inclusive sports participation.

Providing socially at-risk families with a digital learning hub offering practical resources, activity guidance, and access to community-based sports opportunities that support long-term participation in physical activity.
