Bridging Paradigms: Elevating Older Adults’ Psycho-Social Health through Digital Literacy

GA number:  2025-1-SK01-KA220-ADU-00035370

Funded by: Erasmus+  Duration: 01/11/2025 – 31/10/2027

Challenge

Across Europe, many older adults continue to face social isolation, limited digital participation, and barriers to accessing essential online services. These challenges became even more visible during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many seniors attending community-based day centres experienced increased loneliness and disconnection from social networks and support systems. While digital technologies can help strengthen communication, independence, and mental well-being, many older adults lack the confidence and skills needed to engage safely online. At the same time, concerns around cyberstalking, online harassment, fraud, and misinformation often create anxiety, distrust, and reluctance to use digital tools. As a result, many seniors remain excluded from opportunities for social participation, e-health services, and digital communication, further deepening isolation and vulnerability in an increasingly digital society.

Innovation

Bridging Paradigms empowers seniors to navigate the digital world with confidence while strengthening their social connection and mental well-being. By transforming day centres into trusted digital learning hubs, it equips staff with the skills to deliver hands-on technology training alongside psychosocial support, helping older adults develop essential digital competences, stay safely connected, and actively participate in an increasingly digital society.

Action

The digital literacy programme tailored to older learners provides clear modules on online safety, cyber abuse prevention, and mindful use of technology. It also builds the capacity of professionals working in social care, healthcare, and adult education to teach this curriculum to seniors. The programme includes a trainer’s handbook that guides educators on effective methods for delivering these skills.

Selected day centres are transformed into fully equipped digital learning hubs that support older adults in developing digital skills within accessible and inclusive environments. Through dedicated training sessions and hands-on learning activities, the hubs help seniors strengthen their digital literacy while also promoting psychosocial well-being, confidence, and social connection.

The roadmap outlines the steps, best practices, and necessary resources for other organizations to replicate the digital training hub model.
