YouLEAD: Empowering YOUth taking the Lead towards active citizenship

YouLead aims to empower and support the active involvement and civic participation of youth in public affairs, including non-formal activities, with a special emphasis on youth with fewer opportunities

Project Number: 2021-2-PT02-KA220-YOU-000049028

Funded by: Erasmus+       Duration: 01/03/2022 – 29/02/2024

Challenge

Young people need a flourishing civil society and civic space in which they can actively participate and fully utilize their political rights. They need opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills, and attitudes to find their place in society, be autonomous and play a key role in shaping the future they want to live in.

However, the last few years have brought a persistent silencing of the voice of youth, limiting their civic space and participation in democratic life. Young people often have fewer opportunities to participate and are underrepresented in decision-making. At the same time, it is worth mentioning that in all OECD countries young people aged 15-24 have the lowest share of voter turnout: 68% on average. Within this context, there is an intensified need to help youth increase their engagement in civic life and their participation in the decision-making processes.

Innovation

YOULead aims to increase the active involvement of youth in public affairs by modernizing the teaching practices of youth staff and providing youth, especially youth with fewer opportunities, with learning opportunities that allow them to build their understanding of the social and political issues.

.

Action

The Curriculum aims to help youth attain a thorough conception of key issues and notions that are prevalent in modern societies and are essential in fostering a more active stance in the public sphere.

The Guide-toolkit supports youth and youth workers in effectively putting forward their views and perceptions in the public sphere to influence decisions and policies. The toolkit will support learners in: Project/Action Development and Management, Campaign Design, Advocacy, Conflict Mediation, Media Relations and Public speaking.

The interactive eLearning platform includes a database of eLearning materials such as videos, podcasts, presentations, reports, online publications, blogs and discussion forums. The platform will be open to anyone interested to participate and learn at their convenience.
