Building Youth capacities on Inclusive Community Design through participatory and intersectional training
GA number: 101244943

Challenge
Youth participation in decision-making remains low across Europe, particularly among marginalised and underrepresented young people. Many young people face barriers to meaningful participation, including limited access to information, a lack of opportunities to engage, and gaps in the knowledge and skills needed to influence decisions that affect their communities. These barriers can leave young people with limited agency and make local decision-making less inclusive and less representative of the communities it serves.
Addressing these inequalities requires participation approaches that are accessible, inclusive and designed around the realities and needs of diverse young people.
Innovation
YOUTH ID puts marginalised and underrepresented young people at the centre of local decision-making, moving beyond traditional approaches that often limit youth participation to consultation. It combines participatory design, democratic engagement and intersectional awareness to give young people the knowledge, skills and opportunities to shape the development of their communities.
Through capacity-building for youth workers, local youth groups and hands-on training in community mapping and advocacy, YOUTH ID creates a structured pathway from learning to participation and action. Young people then take the lead in designing community initiatives and engaging directly with policymakers at local and European levels, supported by a transnational network that strengthens long-term collaboration and policy impact.
