Challenge

Young people with learning disabilities, be it intellectual, psychosocial, or developmental, often find themselves excluded from significant political, economic, cultural, and social processes due to the barriers they encounter. To ensure their voices are heard, it is crucial to overcome these challenges and establish an environment that facilitates their active participation in social and democratic life.

Innovation

By harnessing the power of youth work and non-formal education, the Extraordinary Citizens project is designed to empower people with intellectual disabilities and enable them to actively engage in democratic processes.

Action

Study on the legal rights of young people with intellectual disabilities bot at national and European levels regarding their access to democracy, voting rights, representation in public forums etc.

Three good practices per country are included in the collection of good practices. These good practices are about the promotion of active citizenship and democratic rights of young people with intellectual disabilities.

This study report compiles the study on democratic rights, the conclusions drawn from focus groups and the compilation of good practices.

This training material provides the necessary tools for trainers to work with youth people with disabilities in the corresponding topic and train them about how they can undertake active role in society.

The Collection of Good practices seeks to inspire other young people with intellectual disabilities or organizations working with them to implement activities that promote the role in society of youth with intellectual disabilities.
