SKILLS – Shaping Keys for Independent Living Solutions

The SKILLS project will promote the training of professionals in the disability sector to empower individuals with disabilities with e-skills for independence and employment.

Grant Agreement Number: 2022-1-PT01-KA220-VET-000086674

Funded by: Erasmus+      Duration: 01/11/2022 – 30/04/2025

Challenge

To effectively adapt to the digitalisation of various aspects of life, such as work, social interactions, and communication, individuals with disabilities require appropriate and specialised training.

The prevailing trend of digitising content frequently results in the creation of incomplete, unverified, and inaccessible materials, making it difficult for people with disabilities to transition towards self-reliance and independent living.

In our view, it is crucial to prioritise the training of professionals who assist individuals with disabilities in their journey towards autonomy and independent living, as this forms the foundation for the overall process.

Innovation

The SKILLS project aims to facilitate the training of professionals in the disability sector, enabling them to effectively train individuals with disabilities and transfer essential e-skills for independence and employment search. This emphasis on empowering individuals with disabilities through e-skills training and fostering their autonomy sets the project apart and drives its innovative approach.

Action

The main output of the project is the development of curricula and e-training courses. This output involves creating modular learning units that can be utilised by training providers to deliver effective training. Each learning unit has specific learning outcomes, encompassing knowledge, skills, and competences, which can be consistently assessed and validated. Moreover, this output provides guidelines to training providers to assist them in integrating the learning units into their existing courses, enhancing the quality and relevance of their training offerings.

This output involves creating an e-learning platform that utilises multimedia elements. The platform provides online courses, presenting content through text, interactions, images, and multimedia to engage learners and ensure comprehension. It is developed using a user-friendly Learning Management System (LMS), allowing users to access training materials, toolkits, and guidelines developed in previous outputs. The platform offers on-demand videos and interactive learning activities, using the LearnPress plugin for easy content delivery.

The Roadmap includes the toolbox and the training tools developed by the project together with guidelines and recommendations on how to successfully develop e-learning new contents and models to respond to new needs and trends. The set of Policy Recommendations aims at advocating for a framework for inclusive and accessible online education.
