KMOP fosters inclusive education and employment in Albania

Over the past three years, KMOP has been working in Albania to foster the inclusion of Roma and Egyptian communities in education and employment.

In this framework, we organised and coordinated, from 17–19 September 2025, a study visit in Tirana and Elbasan, bringing together 35 stakeholders from Albania and Greece to exchange knowledge and strengthen collaboration on inclusive education and employment. Together, we explored key topics such as institutional engagement, blended education and employment initiatives, capacity building and practical learning in co-designing inclusive employment and education schemes through collaborative approaches.

The visit featured the active participation of key representatives from both Albania and Greece, including: the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ina Majko, the Deputy Mayor of Elbasan, Asim Sula, the Focal Point for the Roma Community at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, Irena Mitro, the General Director of Social Policies at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, Merita Xhafaj, and other directors from the municipalities of Tirana, Shkodra, Elbasan, and Vlora. NGO representatives, school leaders, as well as experts from the Greek General Secretariat for Social Solidarity and the Fight against Poverty, Fotis Skouras, Evi Anastasaki, Eleftheria Koumalatsou, and our long-standing partner, Klimaka – Roma Day Center, Evgenia Zarokosta, also participated. Their engagement highlighted the strong institutional commitment to advancing inclusive policies and practices.

Through this study visit, we strengthened regional cooperation, empowered communities, and promoted innovation in service delivery. We continue our efforts to equipping municipalities with the tools needed to provide inclusive services and improve social outcomes, especially for underserved groups.
