According to the Eurydice Report on integrating students from migrant backgrounds into schools in Europe, which was published in 2019, the rate of students dropping out of school early is still quite high. Spain and Italy have the second and third highest rates, with 31.9% and 30.1% respectively, while Greece comes in at ninth place with a rate of 16.9%. The report also found that the dropout rate for Spanish and Italian students is also concerning, with 15.6% in Spain (ranking fifth out of 34 countries) and 12% in Italy (ranking ninth out of 34 countries). In Greece, the rate of Greek students dropping out of school early is much lower at 5.4%, which ranks 26th out of 34 countries. However, the dropout rate of foreign students is three times higher than that of Greek students which means that something is failing as in Spain and Italy where this rate is twice as high. These data reveal the relevance of strengthening the educational inclusion of students with a migrant background.
