KMOP, in partnership with six organizations across Europe, has developed the online training program for educators, “Integrating Service Learning into Teaching”. Service-Learning is an educational approach that blends civic engagement with academic learning, allowing students to experience democracy firsthand and reflect on it through their own creative contributions.
This online program aims to equip educators and school leaders across Europe with the tools to enhance students’ democratic skills using the innovative Service-Learning methodology. By bridging formal education with meaningful civic engagement, the course fosters students’ active participation in society. In this context, between January and May 2024, over 150 educators participated in nine interactive webinars. These sessions featured dynamic discussions, exchanges of best practices, and ideas on how to integrate Service-Learning into teaching.
The training is divided into three key modules:
- Module 1: Understanding Service-Learning
- Module 2: Service-Learning and Democratic Competencies
- Module 3: Thematic Deep Dives & Practical Tools and Methods
By completing the program, educators will:
- Understand and critically reflect on the concept of Service-Learning and its cross-disciplinary relevance.
- Explore models for teaching democratic competencies.
- Learn how to integrate Service-Learning into their teaching practices.
- Gain the knowledge, skills, tools, and attitudes necessary to design and implement Service-Learning projects focused on fostering democratic competencies.
The goal of this online course is to support the integration of Service-Learning into schools, enhance students’ democratic competencies and civic engagement, promote cross-border educational collaborations, and develop essential 21st-century skills for both educators and students.
