Public discussion on fake News, disinformation and hate speech in the digital era

KMOP invites you to the dynamic and informative online public discussion on Monday, 23 June 2025, from 15:00 to 16:30 (EEST) “Fake News, Misinformation and Hate Speech in the Digital Era”.

Register here.

The rapid spread of misinformation and hate speech on social media presents serious challenges for education, democracy, and social cohesion. Young people, as daily users of digital platforms, are especially vulnerable to harmful content and misleading information. According to Eurobarometer findings, 83% of EU citizens believe that fake news poses a threat to democracy, while 63% of young people encounter misleading content online at least once a week.

In this context, KMOP’s upcoming public discussion explores the crucial role of schools in tackling fake news and aims to present practical proposals to strengthen media literacy in educational settings. Through open discussion and an interactive workshop, participants will explore tools, strategies, and good practices from the education sector.

Specifically, we will discuss:

  • The spread of fake news and its impact on children and young people
  • The role of education in countering online disinformation and hate speech
  • Practical tools and strategies to strengthen digital literacy
  • How the educational community is responding to current challenges and needs

Who should attend?

  • Adult educators
  • NGO and lifelong learning professionals
