Strengthening the role of frontline professionals and social partners in addressing human trafficking

KMOP, in collaboration with the National Centre for Social Solidarity (EKKA) and SolidarityNow, organised on Wednesday 26 November 2025, at the Ionic Centre in Athens, an informational event titled “Addressing Human Trafficking in Greece: The Role of Frontline Professionals and Social Partners”.

The event brought together numerous representatives from Civil Society Organisations, as well as professionals from the fields of education, tourism, transport, the Labour Inspectorate, Reception and Identification Centres and other frontline sectors who responded to the call to strengthen protection mechanisms for potential victims.

Presentation of the new “Pocket Guides” for frontline professionals: Immediate guidance when every minute counts

During the event, the new PROCAP project “pocket guides” were presented and distributed. Developed by KMOP, EKKA, and SolidarityNow, these guides support professionals in recognising and managing incidents of human trafficking. They provide immediate, step-by-step guidance, enabling professionals to identify key indicators and follow the reporting procedure with clarity and confidence.

The guides, (currently available in Greek) constitute one of the most important tools produced by the project to date, as they offer practical assistance to professionals who often serve as the first point of contact in cases of exploitation, yet may not always have the necessary means or specialised training to act safely.

Their presentation during the event underlined PROCAP’s holistic approach, which combines training, practical tools, stakeholder collaboration, and enhanced capacity for rapid identification and protection of victims.

The event opened with welcoming remarks by Maria-Elli Doufexi Kaplani, senior researcher and trainer at KMOP, who highlighted the importance of collaboration in efforts to prevent, address, and raise awareness of human trafficking.

Greetings were delivered by Mr Ioannis Brachos, Head of the Office of the National Rapporteur on Combatting Human Trafficking (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and Ms Irene Molioti, Vulnerability Officer at the General Secretariat for Vulnerable Citizens (Ministry of Migration and Asylum). Both emphasised the importance of continuous professional training and the establishment of a protection network supported by cooperation between state authorities and civil society organisations.
Ms Paolina Kara, Lawyer and member of the NRM team, presented recent trends and good practices in victim identification and support.

New e-learning platform for frontline professionals

During her presentation, Ms Nefeli Papagiannakou, Senior Project Manager at KMOP, introduced the PROCAP initiative, outlining field activities and the innovative tools developed. She highlighted the digital learning platform, which offers tailored information for each professional sector and is freely accessible to anyone wishing to learn more about human trafficking. Through the platform, frontline professionals gain immediate access to valuable knowledge and practical guidance to help them recognise key indicators of trafficking.
