Challenge
Studies have highlighted the problem of violence that “young athletes” have experienced in the context of sporting activities, and the lack of specific policy measures against this. Actually, 10% of children involved in competitive sports have undergone human rights abuse, and another 20% are at risk. This violence can have negative impact in children well-being. On the contrary, sports promote important values such as tolerance and fair-play and can enhance children’s motor skills, strengthening at the same time their social inclusion and promoting a healthier way of life. Children in order to reap the benefits of sports should be protected against any form of violation and practice in safe environments.
Innovation
ACTIVE aims at establishing safer environments for children by developing an online self-assessment tool, allowing sports and leisure clubs to identify and address gaps in terms of implementation of Child Protection Polices in their premises.
