PREVENTING EATING DISORDERS IN VET EDUCATION

An initiative that seeks to enhance the efficient identification, prevention, and management of eating disorders among youth in VET education

GA number: 2024-1-ES01-KA220-VET-000244614

Funded by: Erasmus+     Duration: 01/12/2024 – 31/05/2027

Challenge

The rising number of eating disorders among young people in Europe, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, has created a pressing need for better prevention and intervention strategies. Despite this growing need, VET (Vocational Education and Training) centres, where young people spend much of their time, lack the proper tools to help trainers identify and address eating disorders, as current resources tend to focus more on families rather than on educators.

Innovation

HEALTH UP! aims to introduce targeted content in vocational education to equip VET trainers with the knowledge and tools to understand, prevent, and identify potential indicators of eating disorders among their students.

Action

A guide providing VET trainers with essential tools and resources to effectively identify, understand, and address eating disorders among their students. Additionally, it encourages open discussions around eating disorders, helping to eliminate stigma and foster a supportive environment for prevention and management.

A workshop manual focusing on promoting healthy nutritional habits among VET trainers and students, including the following sections:

-Information about healthy nutritional habits
-Relation between healthy nutritional habits and eating disorders
-Examples of alternatives for nutritional habits
-Classroom activities
-Home activities
-HEALTHUP! digital app activities
-Guidelines for VET trainers to monitor nutritional activities
-Materials and resources

A HEALTH UP! app designed to serve as a central hub for organising and accessing activities related to promoting healthy nutritional habits among VET trainers and trainees. Key features of the app include a content area and exercises.
