Challenge

Human trafficking has profound consequences for individuals and communities, manifesting in severe physical and psychological trauma, as well as social isolation and mistrust. In the recovery journey for trafficking victims, it is essential to create opportunities for social connection and empowerment. Incorporating sports as a therapeutic tool can play a valuable role in this process, provided that it is integrated into a comprehensive recovery programme that addresses the unique needs and circumstances of survivors.

Innovation

RECOVER harnesses the power of sports as a therapeutic tool to enhance the recovery and reintegration of VoTs through sports, improving their wellbeing and raising public awareness of the benefits of physical activity, while also promoting valuable synergies between organisations.

Action

A training curriculum for professionals in the field of sports and VoTs recovery and reintegration, covering essential topics, including the following:
– Understanding the value of sports in facilitating healing and integration
– Identifying and addressing the special needs of various types of trafficking victims
– Creating a safe and inclusive coaching environment
– Developing effective coaching strategies that encourage participation from VoTs

An e-guide that provides guidelines and practical strategies for relevant professionals to integrate sports into recovery and reintegration initiatives for VoTs. It will also serve as a resource for participants in the capacity-building programme, guiding them on effectively implementing its content through gamification elements.

A comprehensive resource designed to educate and inform relevant professionals about the significant benefits of incorporating sports into the reintegration and recovery programmes for VoTs.
