History Box

History Box

History Box uses history to facilitate migrants’ integration into the host countries.

Project Number: 2022-1-BE01-KA220-ADU-000085771

Funded by: Erasmus+      Duration: 1/1/2022 – 31/12/2024

Challenge

As refugees and migrants continue to seek a new home in member states of the European Union, it is important to recognize that many of them lack knowledge about the history of their new country. This lack of familiarity can hinder their ability to understand new institutions, practices, values, and customs, making it challenging for them to feel included and participate fully in their new communities.

However, by delving into the historical significance behind these aspects of their new country, immigrants can find commonalities with their own experiences and history, allowing them to make sense of their new environment and build connections with their new community. This deeper understanding can ultimately facilitate their inclusion and active participation in the social, economic, and cultural aspects of their new home.

Innovation

History Box is designed to showcase the key role that history and history education play in promoting the integration of migrants and refugees in their host countries.

Action

Τhe Policy Papers aims to raise awareness about how history education can positively influence the integration process and create an understanding among target groups and stakeholders about the importance of history education for migrants and refugees.

The History Box Learning Units assist trainers and educators in teaching courses aimed at refugees and migrants, providing relevant and easy to digest information about important aspects of host society and, most importantly, providing answers to questions immigrants might ask themselves when confronted with the realities of their country of residence.

The History Box Training Hub provides trainers and adult educators with various tools, guidelines, and tips on how they can practically integrate history education into existing training courses.
