An initiative enhancing the information and awareness on the risks of irregular migration in Pakistan
GA number: 101102180
Funded by: AMIF Duration: 01/05/2023 – 30/04/2025

Challenge
The SAFER project addresses several key challenges related to irregular migration from Pakistan to Europe. It aims to counter widespread misinformation and false promises spread by smugglers by providing reliable, balanced information on the dangers of irregular migration. The project also seeks to shift perceptions and behaviors among young Pakistani men by highlighting legal migration alternatives and local economic opportunities. Another major challenge it tackles is the lack of accessible, trusted information within communities; SAFER addresses this by engaging local influencers and using word-of-mouth and social media.
Innovation
The SAFER project introduces an innovative, community-driven approach by using trusted local researchers, community members and other local stakeholders to spread awareness through word-of-mouth—proven effective in the target regions. It tailors messages to young men with limited education opportunities, providing information that will support the informed-based decisions.
