Have you ever thought about how playing football with your friends or volleyball in a local park can have a positive impact on our mental health?
To this end, KMOP announces its new collaboration with public authorities from 7 European regions to improve local and regional policies so that community sport becomes more accessible, inclusive, and part of daily life for people of all ages.
This promising endeavor, under the name “SportsCom” and funded by the INTERREG Europe, officially launched on 1 & 2 July in Brussels. Representatives from KMOP, the Porto Metropolitan Area (coordinator), the Regional Development Fund of Attica in Greece, The Regional Development Agency Backa Ltd. Novi Sad from Serbia, the Krakow Metropolis Association from Poland, the Municipality of Heerenven from the Netherlands and the Nyíregyháza Municipality from Hungary came together under a shared goal: to show how sport can be used as a tool for well-being and stronger communities.
At the project’s first meeting, partners shared ideas and experiences from their own regions. They talked about the common problems communities face — like not having access to sports facilities, or the lack of connection between sport and local health services.
Next Steps
Over the next 3 years, KMOP will work closely with local stakeholders, public authorities, and other partners to:
- Identify and share successful practices on community sport
- Improve existing regional policy tools
- Help design better policies that connect sport with social inclusion and health
- Organise study visits, learning events and seminars across Europe aiming to highlight the social role of sport and its interconnection with individuals’ wellbeing
KMOP, through SportsCom, aspires to create real and lasting change — making sport more open and meaningful for everyone, and turning local policies into tools that truly support people’s well-being.
