KMOP at International Workshop on Reducing Territorial Inequalities

On 27 June 2025, KMOP joined universities and research organisations from across Europe in Rome for an international workshop on tackling territorial inequalities. The event brought together experts, community groups, and practitioners to share real-life experiences and practical ways to improve opportunities for people living in disadvantaged areas.

Organised by the European Network for the Fight Against Poverty in Spain and hosted by ARCI, the meeting was part of the Horizon Europe project EXIT – Exploring Territorial Inequalities. It opened with a powerful photo exhibition created by people from rural communities in several countries. These images told personal stories of exclusion and hardship—showing the human face of inequality and the importance of listening to those directly affected.

Throughout the day, participants from different regions shared their countries’ experiences—from Greece and Italy to Spain and beyond. The discussions highlighted how territorial gaps impact people’s daily lives, especially in rural or remote areas, and how our research helped bring their voices to the forefront.

Small group sessions focused on practical ideas: improving local services, involving residents in decision-making, and making sure policies are shaped by real community needs. Participants also identified the barriers that often slow down progress—such as lack of funding, poor coordination, or missing links between local and national authorities.

KMOP, through the EXIT project. combines fieldwork and policy analysis to offer real solutions for change. By working closely with communities and collecting evidence from the ground, it supports better, more responsive policies.
