ARTEMIS

Art, Resilience & Therapy for Empowering Mental wellbeing and Inclusive Self-expression

GA number:  101256009

Funded by: Creative Europe Duration: 01/02/2026 – 31/01/2028

Challenge

Mental health challenges among young people have increased significantly across Europe, with anxiety, depression and emotional distress affecting growing numbers of adolescents. The COVID-19 pandemic intensified these issues, while social isolation, educational disruption, excessive digital engagement and family pressures have made it more difficult for many young people to access the support they need.

Although mental health services play an essential role, many adolescents, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, face barriers to accessing timely and appropriate support. Addressing these challenges requires innovative approaches that complement existing services, promote emotional wellbeing and create safe spaces where young people can express themselves and build resilience.

Innovation

ARTEMIS promotes adolescents’ mental wellbeing by combining artistic expression with therapeutic practice to support emotional resilience and social inclusion. Bringing together artists, cultural organisations, mental health professionals and youth workers, the project develops a collaborative model that uses creative activities to help young people express emotions, strengthen social connections and improve their wellbeing in safe and supportive environments.

Action

Co-creating an innovative framework that combines artistic practice with mental health support for adolescents. Drawing on the expertise of artists, cultural organisations, mental health professionals and youth workers, the model provides practical guidance for delivering creative, ethical and inclusive activities that respond to the emotional needs of young people.

Providing multidisciplinary teams with the knowledge, practical tools and shared methodologies needed to apply the ARTEMIS model. Through international training and national peer-learning activities, participants strengthen their skills in using creative approaches to support adolescents’ mental wellbeing while ensuring ethical and person-centred practice.

Piloting the ARTEMIS approach in real-life settings to explore how creative activities can improve adolescents’ emotional wellbeing, resilience and social inclusion. The pilot activities generate evidence on the model’s effectiveness, helping refine the approach and support its wider adoption across different cultural and community contexts.
