KMOP announces its new partnership with six leading European universities in a new effort to strengthen gender equality across Research and Innovation Organisations (RIOs) in Europe.
Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) have long been a central tool for tackling gender imbalance in research and innovation. However, most existing frameworks often fail to reflect the realities of people who experience multiple and intersecting forms of exclusion. This narrow approach leaves significant blind spots in how equality and inclusion are understood—and practiced—within research institutions.
The new partnership brings together KMOP with the Paris School of Economics, University College Dublin, Lisbon School of Economics and Management, Ștefan cel Mare University of Suceava, the University of Girona, and the Middle East Technical University. Their shared aim is to place diversity and intersectionality at the heart of gender equality strategies in research and innovation organisations.
As part of the collaboration, KMOP will contribute to the development a comprehensive blueprint for Inclusive Gender Equality Plans, alongside innovative training tools for researchers, professionals in the field of research and innovation and policy actors. The partnership will also produce robust, evidence-based research examining how gender inequality and intersectionality operate within RIOs across Europe.
The work is being carried out under the GEPINC project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme, and reflects a growing recognition that meaningful gender equality requires policies that account for the full complexity of people’s lived experiences.
