Supporting early childhood professionals in detecting signs of Autism Spectrum Disorders

Early identification and tailored support are critical to ensuring positive outcomes for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Yet, educators and families often lack the resources and guidance needed to recognise early signs and respond effectively during the preschool years—a formative period in a child’s development. Without adequate tools and informed strategies, many children risk missing the timely interventions that can significantly influence their long-term well-being and inclusion.

To address this gap, KMOP has partnered with the German School of Athens and four European organisations to launch ASDinPreschool, a collaborative initiative aimed at strengthening early detection, fostering inclusive preschool environments for children on the autism spectrum and supporting the cooperation among school and families.

To achieve these goals, the partnership will develop practical tools to support early childhood professionals, families and policymakers, including:

  • An Educators’ Curriculum to guide inclusive teaching practices

  • An Intervention Guide to support tailored early interventions

  • A Parent Guide to empower families with knowledge and strategies

  • The ASDinPreschool Toolbox with ready-to-use materials and resources

  • A Roadmap for Integration to align local efforts with broader inclusion goals
