Independent living for persons with disabilities in a digital world: The role of health professionals

Living independently remains a daily challenge for many persons with disabilities. This challenge is closely linked to access to technology, education, and professional support.

According to the European Commission’s “European Comparative Data on Persons with Disabilities” report (2022), Greece ranks among the EU countries with the highest levels of digital inequality. While 95.2% of persons without disabilities in Greece use the internet, the figure drops to just 87.2% among persons with disabilities. Data from the National Confederation of Disabled People also reveal that only 35% of people with disabilities in Greece use the internet regularly, compared to 65% of those without disabilities. Even more concerning: only 2 in 10 internet users with disabilities use it for educational purposes.

These disparities highlight a stark digital divide—and underline the importance of action. To address these pressing issues, KMOP is hosting the online event  “Independent Living for Persons with Disabilities in a Digital World: The Role of Health Professionals”, on Monday, 16 June 2025, at 15:00.
