Single-parent families, most of whom consist of women, have more possibilities to live at risk of poverty and social exclusion. In 2016, the highest at-risk-of-poverty rate in the EU-28 was recorded for single parents with dependent children, at more than one third. Women are affected the most, as they make up almost 85% of all single-parent families in the EU.
PARENTBANK – ‘Enhancing the social inclusion of low income single parents’ is a new European initiative, which aims at facilitating the labor market integration of low-income single parents, by promoting their access to childcare and other services that they may be unable to afford.
