In a time when European societies are facing dramatic changes and dealing with complex inter-linked global problems, greater attention must be given to the insights Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) could offer to promote innovative solutions addressing societal challenges.
The SHOUT project aims to strengthen innovation capacity and transformational role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) when dealing with complex problems presented in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and developing innovative sustainable solutions through inter-sectoral cooperation models.
To reach their objective, project partners in Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal and Slovenia conducted a research on the state of the art and existing practices in the intersection of the two main realms – the SSH and the SDGs. The research was based on the analysis of the relevant legislation, policy and practices across these eight European countries.
The partners also published a Good Practices Booklet, which aims at presenting visually and straightforwardly a set of 10 initiatives that stand out within the society for their contributions towards the SDGs through Social Sciences and Humanities action. The set of good practices selected by SHOUT depicts relevant examples of SSH students, researchers and graduates’ involvement in sustainable innovations/transformation in industry or 3rd sector settings, as well as innovative solutions that demonstrate economic profit or its potential to demolish the myth of unprofitability of socially or environmentally sensitive solutions.
